چکیده

Bacterial isolates from common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) were identified by the API 20E system (bioMérieux). Twenty one isolates were identified as Shewanella putrefaciens. These isolates were tested for selected biochemical and cultural characteristics. Pathogenicity of two isolates (Pt38 and K116) for freshwater fish was assayed. Biochemical characteristics of most isolates corresponded to S. putrefaciens described by Saeed et al. (1987), but the isolates tested did not require NaCl to growth. Following intraperitoneal injection of isolates Pt38 or K116, fish developed disease signs with 33-50% mortality.

Shewanella putrefaciens – a new opportunistic pathogen of freshwater fish

In recent years, Shewanella putrefaciens, commonly known as a halophilic bacteria, has been associated with serious health disorders in freshwater fish. Therefore, it has been described as a new aetiological agent of the disease, named shewanellosis. S. putrefaciens is a heterogeneous group of microorganisms, belonging to the Alteromonadaceae family. Based on different criteria, three biovars a...

Isolation and molecular identification of bacteria producing alkaline phosphatase enzyme from environmental sources

Alkaline phosphatase (ortho phosphate, monoester hydrolase phosphoinositide E. C. 3.1.3.1) is a non-specific metalloproteinase enzyme that is located inside periplasmic space of bacteria. This enzyme is used to measure freshwater sediment in genetic engineering for cleaning water. Isolation and molecular identification of the bacteria producing alkaline phosphatase and comparison of its product...

Identification of Shewanella baltica as the most important H2S-producing species during iced storage of Danish marine fish.

Shewanella putrefaciens has been considered the main spoilage bacteria of low-temperature stored marine seafood. However, psychrotropic Shewanella have been reclassified during recent years, and the purpose of the present study was to determine whether any of the new Shewanella species are important in fish spoilage. More than 500 H2S-producing strains were isolated from iced stored marine fish...

Antibacterial Activity of Zataria multiflora Boiss Essential Oil against Some Fish Spoilage Bacteria

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate antimicrobial effect of Zataria multiflora Boiss essential oil (EO) against six fish spoilage bacteria for evaluation of its potential utilization in the preservation of minimally processed fish products. Methods: Firstly, GC-MS analysis of the EO was performed to determine its chemical composition. Then, antibacterial effect of the EO in a ...

Inhibitory effect against pathogenic and spoilage bacteria of Pseudomonas strains isolated from spoiled and fresh fish.

The antibacterial effects of 209 Pseudomonas strains isolated from spoiled iced fish and newly caught fish were assessed by screening target organisms in agar diffusion assays. One-third (67 strains) inhibited the growth of one or several of six target organisms (Escherichia coli, Shewanella putrefaciens, Aeromonas sobria, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Listeria monocytogenes, and Staphylococcus aure...
